RIPI Showcases 14 Technological Breakthroughs at Iran Nano 2016
TEHRAN, Oct 26 (RIPI) -- The RIPI's Nano Research Center introduced 14 new achievements and technological sciences created and developed by the center at the 9th International Nanotechnology Festival. Some nano-products that have been produced by different departments of the research center this year were also presented at the exhibition.
The Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) introduced some of its most important achievements at Iran Nano 2016, including: the technological savvy of making stable nano-emulsion formulation out of nanoparticles for EOR purposes; the technological knowhow of hydrocarbon vapor recovery system with nano-adsorbents; the technological science for the production of Corrosion inhibitors for oil and gas wells; performing field tests and the technological science of the formulation for nano-ins used in drilling fluid lubrication.
There were other achievements presented by the RIPI at the exhibition, including the technological sciences of: the nano-ins formulation for shale inflation control and heat transfer in drilling fluids; producing blanket nano insulation in pilot scale and successfully performing related field tests in Iran's oil-rich regions in the south; producing nano insulation paint in pilot scale and performing related field tests; producing aqueous and oil and ethylene glycol-based nanofluids in industrial scale; storing natural gas in ANG industrial scale by nano-adsorbents; producing nano-pads to remove oil stains.
The technological science of the formulation for producing gas nanosensors for H2S, the technological science of producing graphene and porous graphene, the technological science of producing nanoCarbone in industrial scale, and the technological science of formulation for Nano-adsorbents to remove chlorinated compounds were also introduced by the research center at Iran Nano 2016.
Samples of Carbone nanotubes exported to three countries
The RIPI's knowledge-based company presented commercialized products such as metal oxides, carbon nanotubes and different grades of activated carbon. The company has been marketing under the name of Iranians Zagros Nanotechnology in the national and international spheres. Recently, samples of Carbone nanotubes have been exported to Japan, Ukraine, and Russia
Recovery of 95 percent of gasoline vapor
One of the presented achievements was the technological science of hydrocarbon vapor recovery system with nano-adsorbents used in gas stations, in pilot scale. Every time the tanks are loaded, part of the gasoline vapor into the atmosphere and causes environmental pollution. Therefore by installing a unit of Recovery of hydrocarbon compounds on fuel tanks it is possible to recover 95 percent of gasoline vapors and prevent it from polluting the atmosphere.
Remarkable increase in oil recovery
The technological science of making stable nanoemulsion formulation out of nanoparticles for EOR purposes was introduced at the exhibition too. The core flooding tests of Balal Oilfield using stable nano-fluid at 90°c and with a pressure of 6000psi resulted in a significant increase in oil recovery, compared to water. The plan for more oil recovery and the new actions for taking out the oil left in the reservoir rock is categorized as a third type recovery. One of the methods used in the third type of oil recovery is "water flooding".
Production of porous graphene in a large scale for the first time in the world
This year the RIPI presented porous graphene in an unprecedentedly large scale. Also, a new generation of carbons were introduced which are called the nanocarbons and are also cheap.
Nano-structured metal oxides such as zinc and magnesium oxides, as well as nano pads, highly absorbent and useful for removing oil spills, were introduced at the exhibition too.
Achieving the synthesis method and the formulation for lubricant nano add-ons which decrease the friction of drilling strings.
The drilling wells are not always totally vertical. The drilling strings are flexible therefore they touch the sides of the well and this creates a resisting friction which needs additional torque to deal with. The friction can be reduced by putting a layer of drilling lubricants between the moving parts. The RIPI has now presented the synthesis method and the formulation for lubricant nano add-ons and made it possible for them to be produced inside Iran.
