A Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Sidelines of Tehran Oil Show:
Iran “self-sufficient” in Antifoaming Agents for Gas Refineries
TEHRAN, May 08 (RIPI) -- Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI), National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) and Pars Axon Company signed an MOU, at the exhibition, over “production and localization of silicon-based antifoams” on Saturday, May 7.
On the sidelines of this meeting, NIGC’s director for research and technology, Saeed Pakseresht said that, “The MOU was over production of antifoaming agent which is one of the materials used in gas refinery units.”
Pointing out that antifoaming agent has been thus far imported into the country, he added that, “So far domestic production of antifoaming agents has been lower, and the previous efforts to increase production rate ended in failure.”
“In the past few years, NIGC in cooperation with RIPI as well as a number of other chemical companies set their sights on producing this agent within the country,” Pakseresht pointed out.
Saying that the first step was to develop a formulation in laboratory and to launch a pilot, he added that, “RIPI has managed to carry out this undertaking, laboratorial experiments and pilot studies which led to favorable outcomes, and one of the production companies has made a start on cooperation in commercializing the product.”
Pointing out that Pars Axon Company agreed to get the developed knowledge from RIPI, he said, “NIGC has asseverated that they will utilize this material in their own refineries.”
Saying that commercialization is considered as a priority to complete missing links in technology development chain, Seyed Amir Abbaas Hosseini, deputy head of RIPI in technology and international affairs, added that, “We can, with regard to technology development and commercialization, take practical measures to meet domestic needs and decrease dependence upon the materials and products whose resources are hardly up for grabs in the world, making us face the most serious challenges.”
Then he pointed out that domestic production is a top priority for RIPI, which helps achieve self-sufficiency and bring knowledge –based economy to fruition.
It should be noted that, according to the MOU, NIGC is the operator, RIPI is the provider of technical knowledge, and Pars Axon Company is the user of this technical knowledge as well as producer and supplier of the product within the country.
