Sri Lanka Research Minister Visits RIPI
Dr. Premajayantha, Sri Lanka Minister of Science, Technology and Research, paid a visit to the biggest research institute of petroleum in the Middle East, the Research Center of Petroleum Industry (RIPI), on January 16, 2017, for the purpose of being conversant with the capacities of RIPI and furthering cooperation between the two sides.
“They visited the downstream campus pilots in order to establish a lab with the aim of carrying out tests on different types of motor/engine oil and also initiating activities in the realms of bitumen and asphalt”, Dr. Mansour Bazmi, Deputy Head of RIPI in Technology and International Relations, said on the sidelines of the visit, adding that Sri Lanka is new to petroleum-related activities.
He went on to say that, “The Sri Lankan delegation focused more attention on Nano-pilots, appreciating RIPI letting them use their valuable experiences in this field”.
“As Sri Lanka has explored oil resources in deep waters lately, they are eager to carry out explorations and use Iranian know-how in this field, in accordance with which both sides have entered into negotiations”, the Deputy Head of RIPI in Technology and International Relations said with regard to the cooperation in the upstream petroleum industry.
Pointing out that the visit aimed to find ways to enhance the upcoming cooperation, Dr. Bazmi concluded that, “We designated some representatives to pursue the discussed objectives, hoping to sign new bilateral memoranda of understanding (MOUs) in this field”.
